2009 Warhawkmx Motocross Racing TeamTeam Manager: David "Burrito" Villalpando All of us here at Warhawk Powersports are proud to announce the members of our first motocross race team. We would like to thank everyone that applied to our program, as well as the many people and organizations that offered support, encouragement and help. We would like to especially thank Burrito for all of the hard work he has put into this project, often on his own time, to make this team a reality. When Burrito first brought up the idea of us helping out a few privateer racers for the 2009 outdoor motocross season we where hesitant. It is not that we did not want to help, we did, but we thought it was much too late in the year to try and get something together for the 2009 season, when we had barely got the new business started. Burrito with his "can do" attitude assured us we could make it happen and that we needed to "get in the game" and help out. Burrito felt so strongly about this team concept that he offered to invest his own personal time to make this team a reality. Well, this has involved a lot of rushing to get things done, extra hours, hard work and countless phone calls, text messages and e-mails, but, it has all come together and we are pleased to announce our team members. We hope you will all support and encourage not only our Warhawk MX team members, but everyone involved with this fantastic sport. Thank you.
Special note about the WMA pro riders: We want to thank everyone that applied. We had originally planned on helping 1 WMA PRO for the final 2 races of the 2009 season. We had 13 women contact us regarding that one spot. Of those thirteen, eleven of them followed up with a resume. We then sent a questionnaire out to help us make a final selection. We had 4 women notify us that they where withdrawing for various reasons, which left us with seven who completed the application process. We where very impressed by all seven of these young women and found that trying to narrow the field to only one was near impossible. At this point, Burrito put on his tough guy act and made the case that we give the WMA racers a real chance and see what they could do. This season has been the best ever for the WMA, in large part due to Miki Keller's years of hard work and devotion. If you have watched the WMA races this year you know that they have had some very exciting racing. While this year has been better for the WMA we feel that the women still deserve more support so the decision was made to step up and support all seven as best we could. We all need to work together to insure a bright future for the sport we love. Male, Female, young, old, riders, mechanics, family, friends, sponsors, businesses, all of us need to do our best as a unified group to promote our sport. There are many outside our sport that would like to see our beloved sport vanish. We all need to join together to protect and expand our rights to enjoy the sport we choose. We would like to thank RacerX, Miki Keller, MotoNews, Vitalmx, JR Publications and everyone else that helped spread the word about our sponsorship offer.
